Timeshare Resorts may be affected by Intel’s buggy Spectre fixes
Being in the IT world I like to have all my devices and servers up to date as possible. I especially have been aware and concerned of updates this month, January 2018, as the Meltdown and Spectre virus/bug/vulnerabilities have been widely advertised and the affliction is operating system agnostic, affecting every intel hardware platform released in the last twenty years.
I believe timeshare resorts and tour brokers should be especially mindful, careful and proactive in dealing with this threat. According the TheVerge.com intel is at the root of the latest difficulties in dealing with this potential menace. Their released software patches disseminated by Microsoft in recent OS updates have caused “random reboots and data loss”
According to TheVerge chaos and confusion has followed on the heals of some updates, affecting certain processors.
Intel says it has identified the issues behind the unexpected reboots on Broadwell and Haswell processors and is working toward releasing an update that addresses the exploits without causing random reboots and data loss. Ivy Bridge, Sandy Bridge, Skylake, and Kaby Lake processors are also affected, and Intel says it’s “actively working on developing solutions” for those platforms too.
Magna Computer has updated dozens of Linux system internally and for clients to counteract the issues on that platform, some released today! Magna operates Timeshare Software hosted servers and takes the issue seriously.
